The now retired veteran sportscaster decided to turn her love of beautiful things into her second career. With a keen eye and a flair for fine design, she partnered with her childhood friend of 40 years and The Post was the result of this new adventure, she added. “I feel like I’ve been designing rooms forever. Even between Yankee games and the Stanley Cup playoffs, I’d be at the D&D Building finding fabrics for projects, and sourcing light fixtures. I partnered with a member and did all the interiors for a Hunt Club renovation and expansion 5 years ago. I knew then it was something I wanted to do full time.”

Located in Westport, Connecticut, Placey describes The Post as a “chic and stylish home design, gifting and gathering place.” The Post offers a sophisticated take on city, country and coastal style. It’s edgy yet sophisticated without pretense. “The unique space at The Post feels less like a store and more like the dreamy ‘collab-studio’ and hangout of a cutting-edge designer. We invite you to stop in, peek around and disappear from the real world for a while, she adds.  The Post’s customers are savvy, stylish and know what they like; many are established and revered designers and artists.

Everything in the Post has been carefully curated with a focus on items that are unique and hard to find as well as those that are locally made and sourced. Partnerships include Westport-based Stowed Home, Worlds Away, Bungalow5, Spicher & Company, Chilewich, Kravet, and CR Laine Custom Furniture – Everything in their 4000 sq foot space is room ready, and available to be taken home. In this time of worldwide shipping delays, shoppers have been attracted to the fact that there’s no lengthy wait time.

Although the Post is new to Westport, Placey is not. She has been an active member of the Pink Aid Board since 2011, serving as President from 2018-2020, and serves as the event’s on-stage presenter and auction host. Born in St. Louis, MO, Deb started her sports broadcasting career as a Production Associate for ESPN’s Sports Center in 1988. After anchoring sports in four local TV markets, she returned to ESPN as an on air announcer for two years, before ultimately moving to MSG Network in NYC. Over the course of 23 years she hosted game broadcasts for the NY Yankees, NY Mets, NY Knicks and the NHL’s Rangers, Islanders, & Devils, among others. An active equestrian, she is also on the Board of Governors at The Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport, currently serving as a Vice President, and has served on the Finance Committee & Membership Committee since 2015. Placey lives in Southport, CT with her husband Ed, a longtime executive at ESPN. Her daughter Madeline lives in NYC, and also works for ESPN, her daughter Caroline is a junior at USC in Los Angeles..

The Post draws its inspiration from Marketplace at The Abbey in St. Louis, a renowned lifestyle, furniture and decor shop owned by Laura Wilson, Placey’s best friend since 7th grade. The two life-long friends decided to band together to open a “Connecticut version” of the store. Laurie Baur (a “new” friend), whom Deb met 30 years ago on her first day of college, has lived in both New Canaan, Connecticut and St. Louis and rounds off the trio as the sophisticated custom design expert and they are delighted to share their aesthetic and vision with clients.
